Van Dyke Join

Here’s a great piece we re-upholstered for a customer in her own fabric – a £200 per metre silk! There’s a matched, over-stitched, seam on the plain seat. But on the back, the joins are hidden in the buttoned pleats – a technique called ‘Van Dyking’. A useful skill to master when deep-buttoning and the piece is wider than the fabric. The customer added a drum stool to the order – it looks like one piece of fabric, thanks to the Van Dyke Joins.
